What's a quick insider tip for business travelers coming to New York City for the first time?
Take advantage of the food scene. NY is a melting pot of food and culture, so try something new! Skip the hotel bar and venture into a cash-only restaurant. Start your day with a real NY bagel from the deli. It’s worth it!

What’s a little-known advantage of working with a travel management company in New York City?
We’re New Yorkers. There are three airports, and we know which airlines have priority at which. JFK and Newark are huge and complicated. We can advise you the most efficient way to travel, because we do it ourselves. Headed to Barclays Center? JFK is the way to go. Meeting on the west side of Manhattan? You should fly out of Newark.

Can you describe a moment when your travel expertise saved a client time, money, or major stress?
Our goal is to do this every day! One hidden cost our clients don’t anticipate is rides to and from the airport. When several people are traveling at once, lining up arrival and departure times is a great way to save money. While the flight may be $50 more, it saves you hundreds in rental cars or car services to/from the airport. Big picture thinking translates to big savings.

Favorite thing about your role? I get to work with the next generation of travel consultants, but I still have a lot of time to get to work with my clients and help their programs.

What do you think makes Corporate Traveler different? We’re really encouraged to build meaningful relationships with our clients. I don’t cure cancer but I book travel for those that do, and I get to learn about them and what they do.

Favorite thing about NYC? There’s live music everywhere!

What’s your #1 travel tip? If you travel often, keep a list of what you put in your suitcase. It makes it easier to pack.

What's a quick insider tip for business travelers coming to New York City for the first time?
Going to / coming from midtown? TAKE THE TRAIN!! It’s so much quicker!

What’s a little-known advantage of working with a travel management company in New York City?
We KNOW New York. We know the ins and outs of getting around New York – where to stay, how to navigate the city, the ACTUAL amount of time it takes to get places.

Can you describe a moment when your travel expertise saved a client time, money, or major stress?
I had a client wanting to fly from Victoria, BC (Canada) to Buffalo. I quickly knew what a difficult trip this would be from all my experience traveling to Buffalo (and Toronto, which is about 90 min away). Rather than the very expensive 2-stop flight to Buffalo which operates once a day, I suggested flying to Toronto, where we were able to get much more cost-efficient non-stop options.

What's a quick insider tip for business travelers coming to New York City for the first time?
Public transit options from JFK and Newark to Midtown Manhattan are viable, affordable, and often faster – way faster – than a taxi or an Uber, but can be challenging with a lot of luggage. If you’re traveling light, it can be the way to go.

Similarly, getting around Manhattan is fastest and easiest by subway. If you’re not comfortable with that, consider staying walking distance to your appointments. A more expensive hotel could save a lot of time and money, instead of sitting in traffic in a taxi or Uber.

How the New York Mets streamlined travel for every part of the organization

Every fan sees what happens on the field. But behind the scenes, there’s a whole other game in motion. For the New York Mets, keeping the organization moving requires coordinating hundreds of trips, dozens of departments, and some of the biggest names in baseball.

When the Mets needed a partner who could handle travel at the scale and pace of a major league franchise, they turned to Corporate Traveler.

And they haven’t looked back.

Looking for a place to stay in New York City?

Your meeting might be in Midtown while your dinner is in the Financial District. The startup you're visiting could be in Brooklyn, but your client presentation is near Grand Central. Choosing the wrong hotel turns productive trips into subway nightmares.

We'll recommend the best hotels for your schedule and business needs. These are properties our Travel Managers have personally vetted for location, reliability, and business functionality.

Our top hotel partners in New York City:

  • InterContinental New York Barclay – Grand Central proximity for corporate headquarters access
  • The Benjamin Royal Sonesta – Classic Midtown elegance with extended-stay functionality
  • Hotel Indigo Lower East Side – Positioned for Brooklyn and the creative tech community
  • The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel – Financial District sophistication with stunning architecture
  • Kimpton Eventi – Strategic Madison Square Garden and Penn Station location
New York City can overwhelm even seasoned business travelers. With five boroughs, countless neighborhoods, and business districts scattered from the Financial District to Downtown Brooklyn, choosing the wrong hotel can turn your productive trip into a subway nightmare. That's why we've compiled the hotels our Travel Managers actually recommend—the ones that consistently deliver for business guests who need to get things done.

Getting around NYC like a pro

Getting around NYC is about timing, mode selection, and knowing when not to take a car. Local knowledge saves hours.

Customer testimonial
  • Subway: fastest for core business districts

Runs 24/7. Connects Midtown, Financial District, Brooklyn, Queens. Often faster than taxis during peak hours.

Ideal for: Midtown ↔ Downtown meetings, conference access (Javits Center, Brooklyn Navy Yard)

  • Taxis & rideshare: flexible but unpredictable

Best for: Short distances off subway lines and late-night travel.

The challenge: Traffic can turn 15 minutes into 45+ without warning.

  • Walking: underrated

In Midtown or SoHo, walking is often fastest. Keeps you on schedule between back-to-back meetings.

Best for: Meetings within 10 blocks and tight schedules where every minute counts.

  • Ferries: niche but valuable

Routes from Pier 11/Wall Street connect Manhattan to Brooklyn, Queens, and New Jersey.

Useful for: Brooklyn/Queens meetings and avoiding rush hour congestion.

  • Airport transfers require planning

    NYC has three major airports:

    • JFK – International hub
    • LaGuardia – Domestic focus
    • Newark – Mixed, strong for NJ access

Travel time to Manhattan: 30–90+ minutes depending on traffic

     Options:

    • AirTrain + subway (predictable, cost-effective)
    • Chauffeur/car service (preferred for executives and groups)
    • Pre-booked transfers (reliability when timing matters)
  • Executive & group transport

    • Book pre-arranged sedans, SUVs, vans for roadshows, conferences, and airport transfers.
    • Benefits: Reliable timing, centralized billing, real-time flight tracking
  • Commuter rail to suburbs

    • Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) – Connects Long Island to Penn Station/Grand Central
    • Metro-North Railroad – Connects Westchester, Hudson Valley, Connecticut to Grand Central
    • NJ Transit Rail – Connects New Jersey to Penn Station (Newark, Jersey City, Princeton)

The dedication they have to their customers is extremely important to us … Knowing that there is an emergency line and always an agent ready to find any type of solution to get our guys here is extremely important and a great help. (It's) definitely something I was nervous about beforehand, something I've run into issues with in the past.
