This week we are profiling Ben Hobbs, VP of Operations here at Corporate Traveler.
Ben Hobbs - VP of Operations
How long have you been with Flight Centre Travel Group?
I originally joined FCTG in 2004 as a Flight Centre travel consultant after having been intrigued by my roommates “Buzz night” stories. I did leave the business for a few years, but like any true Flightie, I returned in August 2019 and even with the challenges brought about by COVID19, I’m very glad I did!
What sets Corporate Traveler apart from the rest?
For me it's the relationships, both with our internal and external customers. Our people have a real talent in being able to be naturally personable, but also professional and efficient. We use technology as a tool and not as a replacement for our fantastic people.
What do you like best about your role?
The variety—there’s no two days the same and no dull moments. I have the pleasure of working with many different people in many different roles and not only does it make for an interesting workday, it also gives me the opportunity to learn whilst leading.
What keeps you busy outside your job?
Of course travel! Otherwise food (and drink), exploring the wonderful and ever evolving city of LA, video games and DIY around the house.
Do you have any particular stories about helping customers during COVID-19?
I’m just super proud of all of the travel consultants in the USA SME business, not only were they extremely proactive in helping all of our valued clients through the crisis, but have also willingly jumped in to help other FCTG brands such as Student Universe, Gogo and Liberty Travel. Rather than sitting back, they’ve been eager to help wherever they can, pulled each other up when we’ve been down and really come together as one collective team.
What are ways you’ve kept your team motivated?
We’ve tried to be as transparent as possible throughout the crisis and provide updates as soon as they are available. Also making sure that they have meaningful work and explaining how it helps the business as a whole.
