Hotel Indigo Denver

On July 23rd, 2020, Alex Lineham , one of our Travel Managers stayed at Hotel Indigo in Downtown Denver, part of the IHG hotel group.  The hotel, which opened in 2017, is a 4 star hotel right on the steps of Union Station, one of the social hubs in the area. Alex takes us through his visit below and shares what has changed post COVID-19.

Check-in

Check-in was bit different than usual some of the changes included:

  • Masks are provided complimentary and mandatory within the hotel, plenty of signage
  • Plexiglass shield
  • Social Distance markers
  • Touchless payments
  • Sanitized counters and pen.
  • Staff wear masks
  • Hand Sanitizers all around the hotel

Cleaning Protocols

When it comes to cleaning protocols, Hotel Indigo has made quite a few changes, to find out more, I spoke with General Manager Nick Francis. Here are some of the changes:

  • Staff go through daily wellness checks, all are required to wear masks
  • Housekeeping is done 24 hours after checkout with a two day turnaround between usage
  • Any room needs are either delivered outside the room or inside when guests are not there. Turndown has to be requested.
  • Self portage or on request.
  • Gym is only booked in three hour time frames by one room and sanitized in between
  • Following the updated protocols of the IHG clean promise

I appreciated the addition of QR Codes in lobby with updated cleaning procedures, allowing all guests to be aware of what protocols were being taken to keep them safe.

Room Tour

As expected, the room was a bit different than what I'm used to at a hotel, from my conversation with the General Manager, I learned exactly why these changes were made, these included the removal of many high touch items. Some of the things that stood out to me were:

  • No Minibar stock, only a fridge for personal use

  • No in room collateral such as; stationary, magazines and other hard to clean items

  • Only single use toiletries available

  • No connecting rooms available

  • No Throw pillows

Food and Beverage

Food and beverages at the Hotel Indigo Denver

At the time of my visit, food options were limited in the hotel, however, there were still options available. The hotels restaurant Famous Hearth & Dram Whiskey Bar & restaurant is currently closed but available for large social distance meeting rooms with plans to open in fall. There was a pantry in the lobby, which was fully stocked with snacks/drinks/breakfast items available for purchase. Additionally, Wholefoods was a convenient two blocks away,

"Denver has been slowly reopening and doing a good job on communicating with it’s people and businesses, this gave me confidence heading into my first stay in a hotel for a while, and the Indigo didn’t disappoint. From the moment you walk in there is a coherent consistent message of safety that is backed up by it’s well trained and knowledgeable staff, all of whom you can feel are eager for your business. I left feeling relaxed and ready for the day."
