Survey reveals top travel trends for 2014

Hospitality management firm Benchmark Hospitality International has released the results of the Top Ten Travel Trends for 2014.

According to the results, location was the most important accommodation feature followed by internet access.

Business travel is also set to increase this year, with eight out of 10 travel agents surveyed anticipating strong growth for 2014.The survey also revealed baby boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) are doing the most travel, with 60 per cent of 2013 travel agent bookings coming from this generation.

Seniors and Generation X travellers represented approximately 15 per cent of bookings during the same period. Millennials  accounted for less than nine per cent of total travel expenditure during the previous year.

Boomers also placed a greater emphasis on getting value for money out of the travel experience. Almost half of the travel professionals surveyed selected rates as one of the most important factors in travel decision making.

Online travel reviews were also seen to be increasingly important during the travel booking process.

More than 20,000 travel industry professionals took part in the survey, which was commissioned by Benchmark and compiled by an independent market research company.
