SQ cuts fuel surcharges

Singapore Airlines is reducing fuel surcharges. Passengers can expect a fall of between US$5 and US$84 per sector depending on distance and class of travel. The change applies to tickets issued on or after 26 February 2015.

Etihad add Walletplus

Etihad Airways has added a Visa-powered Walletplus feature to its new-look Etihad Guest card. Etihad frequent flyer members can now add funds in 11 currencies to their card for overseas spending. Users can also log in to the Walletplus smartphone app to check balances, transfer money and earn Guests Miles.

Qantas in-flight iPad minis

Qantas is introducing iPad minis for in-flight entertainment in its revamped A330 economy cabins. Passengers will have access to movies, TV shows and music via a customised iPad app and in-flight Wi-Fi. iPads will feature on eight A330-200 aircraft that fly between Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and do not currently offer in-flight video screens. Qantas will also introduce new economy class headsets with flexible silicone ear pads to improve noise reduction. Business class travellers will have access to the same content via 16-inch HD touchscreens.

Air Canada adding premium economy class

Air Canada will add a premium economy offering to its Sydney route this year, delivering a new level to its current two class service. Retrofitting work to the carrier’s B777, B767 and A330 long-haul aircrafts is already underway with the entire fleet due for completion by 2020.

Mantra revamps Breakfree Heritage

Mantra Group’s BreakFree Heritage on Little Bourke in Melbourne has undergone a $1.3 million renovation. The 60-room property will be renamed the Mantra City Central and will offer refurbished one and two bedroom apartments.

SYD T1 transformation underway

Upgrade works are underway at Terminal 1 of Sydney International Airport. The refurbishment will increase capacity and provide quicker access to departure gates after screening. Upgrades will also include improved signage, additional seating, wider walkways and brand new shopping and dining outlets. The first stages of the new look terminal should be unveiled in late 2015. Works are expected to take 20 months.

Hilton HHonors launches platinum credit card 

The Hilton HHonors loyalty program has joined with Macquarie to launch a new platinum credit card. Perks available to cardholders include free nights at any of Hilton’s 12 global hotel brands, automatic HHonors Gold status, free room upgrades where space is available, in-room internet access and more.

JW Marriott debuts in Shenzhen

JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts has opened a new property in China. The 356-room JW Marriott Hotel Shenzhen Bao’an offers views of the Pearl River Delta and features a restaurant and bar, executive lounge and eight meeting catering for up to 2000 guests. A fitness centre, indoor and outdoor pools and a spa are also scheduled to open at the property.
